The Americans snuck into the quarterfinals by beating Colombia 3-2 on Wednesday night. They were in a must-win mode after they lost to Mexico 11-5 in their second game of the tournament. They responded to the loss by beating Canada 12-1 and then finished it with the close win against Colombia. The U.S. would need to rally to get that win as it trailed 3-2 after three innings. Mike Trout would be the hero as he singled in two runs as Will Smith and Mookie Betts came around to score the tying and game-winning run.

Venezuela didn't need to sweat out its last game as it had already gotten huge wins over the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico in its first two games.

The Venezuelan team then slipped by Nicaragua 4-1 and finished off perfectly in pool play when it beat Israel 5-1. It has been a great run for Venezuela and it comes into the quarterfinals with a lot of confidence.

It isn't going to be easy against an American team that is not ready to give up its title just yet.
